I was in a class about the Third Reich this spring and your "I know that as I read about what was known, it still is out of the realm of my imagination that we humans can be that cruel to one another," was going through my mind almost every minute of that class. It's terrifying and depressing to think that something has happened more than once (more than five times that I can think of) in just the last two hundred years.
